KINGS OF PERSIS. Uncertain king, 2nd century BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 4.00 g, 11 h), Istakhr (Persepolis). Bearded male head to right, wearing diadem and kyrbasia topped by an eagle with spread wings and a crescent; in field to right, rosette. Rev. Fire-altar of Ahura-Mazda; above, half-figure of Ahura-Mazda; to left, King standing right, his hands raised in adoration; to right, eagle standing left on standard. Alram -. Klose & Müseler 3/9. Sunrise 579. Van't Haaff 551 NB1 ('uncertain king I-Y'). Beautifully toned and struck in high relief, an exceptional piece. Minor deposits on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
